This is the reason why the Celtic symbol for beginnings, birth and the forces of nature graces the label of this bottle. The Jura 10 Year Old was the first product that was launched after the revival and played an important role in getting the business going. Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith had the idea to rebuild a distillery at the same spot and hence the business went on after half a century. The former business went bankrupt in the beginning of the 20th century. Even though the original distillery was established in 1810, the facilities, as they are known today, were put into operation in 1963. The Jura 10 Year Old is somehow a milestone for the Jura Distillery and therefore became the byname Origin. Due to the subliminal salty sea breeze, it gets almost a maritime character. It matured in ex-bourbon casks for ten years, what made its flavours smooth and soft. Overall, this single malt whisky is not as smoky as its siblings from other islands like for example from Islay. The finish is long and smooth with malty and sweet nuances that linger on. Its taste offers the flavours of oak, caramel, the sweetness of honey and a hint of aniseed. The body opens up powerful in the beginning, leaves a short burning sensation and turns then into a comforting warmth, which is full and thick. On the palate the Jura 10 Year Old still appears oily. Its smell has a smoky, spicy vanilla note with a fragrant salty sea breeze as well as aromas of nuts, almonds and cereals. This single malt Scotch has a nice golden, honey-like sheen and comes in an elegant, ornamental bottle.
